They were probibly bored and just wanted to video tape jacking a recruit up... and it looks like they use him not greeting a marine as an excuse to do that

You're probably right. Seems as if I lived through something kind of like that a few times myself, but I don't remember having more than three DIs yell at me at a given time. And one of them wasn't very good at it.
